vento ludens Ltd. (latin for ‘playing with the wind’) is part of a family-owned international group of companies which includes the largest manufacturer of board games and puzzles in Europe, Ludo Fact. The vento ludens group has been successfully working as a developer, investor and operator of renewable energy installations for over fifteen years.
In addition to Edinburgh, Cardiff and Dublin, vento ludens has offices and associated wind and solar energy developments in Germany and Switzerland.
The Edinburgh-based team has been developing wind farm sites across Scotland since 2005 and is wholly dedicated to producing clean, renewable energy. vento ludens’ first UK wind farm, at Muirake in Aberdeenshire, became operational at the end of 2011. In 2016, the 14.1 MW Edintore Wind Farm near Keith was commissioned and in February 2019 the company gained consent for the 15MW Lurg Hill Wind Farm in Moray. In addition, vento ludens’ teams in Edinburgh, Cardiff and Dublin develop hydroelectric and solar photovoltaic projects across the UK and Ireland.
Community benefit is a cornerstone of the company’s approach to development and the team is committed to involving local communities in the vicinity of our developments in creative and meaningful ways. For example, the Edintore Wind Farm provides a community benefit package of £5,000 per megawatt per year, with an independent community organisation assessing funding applications from local projects. This will represent a total investment of £1,700,000 over the wind farm’s 25-years lifespan.
